Will Maglev compete with Amtrak?

Creating a high-speed rail option in the Baltimore-Washington region does not make other forms of rail transit unnecessary. If Maglev is extended throughout the eastern seaboard, commuters will be given a viable alternative to short distance air travel and long distance car and rail travel. For the Baltimore-Washington region, a forty-mile Maglev corridor has a variety of transportation benefits that differ from the services Amtrak provides.

  • Improved transportation service to Baltimore-Washington International Airport—With Maglev, airline passengers coming from downtown Washington D.C. will be able to get to BWI in ten minutes.
  • With travel time from Baltimore to Washington D.C. reduced to under twenty minutes, both regions will be able to benefit economically from increased tourism and business opportunities.
  • Commuters traveling between Baltimore and Washington will have the option of a more expensive shorter distance trip (Maglev) or a less expensive longer distance trip (Amtrak or MARC).
