Introduction

The Baltimore-Washington Maglev Project team established an extensive study and survey process to determine current traffic and travel patterns and purposes and to estimate future conditions. The study was completed with input from tourist councils, local governments and the local metropolitan planning organizations of the Washington Council of Governments and Baltimore Metropolitan Council.

Study finding highlights include:

  • By 2010, it is estimated that 342 million trips per year, or 936,400 trips per day, will be taking place in the corridor. (This only counts the Baltimore-Washington corridor trips that are more than seven miles in length).

  • Maglev is expected to carry approximately 9.2 million riders per year, or 27,200 per day.
